Sunduq Al Sudan is designed to support and amplify the lifesaving work done by civilian networks across the country.
Modeled after alsunduq (“box”), the mutual aid and community savings groups popular across Sudan, Sunduq al Sudan collects and distributes funding to community-led initiatives on the ground.
We are now raising funds to support displaced communities in Tawila, Darfur. Donate here.
$10,000 | El Fashir Emergency Response Rooms | June 2024
Since May 10th, the Rapid Support Forces have besieged the city of El Fasher, clashing with local armed groups and the Sudanese Armed Forces. Beyond the violence, civilians face dwindling supplies of food and medicine. Sunduq Al Sudan sent $10,000 in donations to the Darfur ERRs (Emergency Response Rooms), enabling the delivery of:
Clean water to 20 centers and neighborhoods where those displaced from El Fasher are sheltering.
Food baskets to 200 families.
Treatment to 200 patients at Southern Hospital
Fuel was provided to 10 neighborhoods in El Fasher (reaching 12,000 people and two shelters housing 500 families)
Solar power system was installed 15km west of El Fasher, servicing 600 displaced families.
$25,000 | Malam Darfur Peace Development | July-September 2024
Due to the ongoing violence in El Fasher, thousands of civilians have fled the city and escaped to Tawila, located 60km away. The local communities in Tawila have been working hard to provide food and shelter but support is urgently needed. The area is inaccessible to the UN or international NGOs, and support is solely coming through local organizations by MDPD.
In June, Sunduq sent $10,000 to MDPD to purchase millet on the local market and disperse it to the displaced communities in Tawila.
In July, Sunduq sent $15,000 to MDPD for a second food distribution to Tawila.
One food distribution allows for a truckload of millet, purchased on local markets, to feed 1,200 families for ten days.
